What will students learn?
You will be provided with your choice of a rat or rabbit that has already been skinned, tanned, and fleshed so that we can dive right into the fun part - making it look alive again! You will learn about the processes that have been done for you and will be given a PDF guide to mammal taxidermy, including the skinning, so you may repeat it at home. Upon arrival you will learn how to make a form, set your animal’s eyes and face, sew hidden stitches, and so much more.

About the class:
All specimens are sustainably sourced. Workshops are taught by award-winning licensed taxidermist Mickey Alice Kwapis.

What do students leave with? 
Each student will leave with a pinned rat or rabbit on a wooden base, ready to take home for posing and drying. You will also receive a PDF guide so you may repeat the process on your own at home.

What is the cost?
Tuition is a total of $225, which includes instruction, supplies, and a specimen to keep as well as aftercare instructions. You will pay a $125 deposit now to reserve your spot and $100 in cash on the day of your class.

What do I need to bring?
Please prepare for the class by wearing closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. If you have ANY animal allergies please prepare by taking allergy medication, as you may be allergic to your specimen. Short fingernails are recommended. Keep in mind that if you choose to have long nails, it is more likely that you will ruin your specimen(s). Bring a bag or box to carry your supplies and finished specimens home in. Please do not bring food or drink unless it is required for a medical condition, since we are working in a library.

Can I give this class as a gift?
Absolutely! I can even create a gift card for you that you can print out and give to the recipient, free of charge. Just send me an email with the information you want on it. This class is timed PERFECTLY for giving during the holidays!

Other information: 
All ages are welcome to participate in these classes. Students under twelve must be accompanied by a calm adult that can assist where needed. Students with special needs are also welcome - just let me know beforehand if you are signing a minor up for the class and/or if special accommodations are required so that I can get everything in order.

Enrollment period:
Initial enrollment is open now through January 16th. Any class which is not at least 50% full on January 16th will be cancelled and refunded in full.
Any class which is at least 50% full by that date will remain open for enrollment until the class fills up or until 14 days before the class date, whichever comes first.

Class location:
We will be renting our classroom through a third party, taking place in either a school, library, or makerspace. Due to strict deposit and cancellation policies in these facilities, I will finalize the rental and update this listing with location information when the class is 50% full.
This class must be 50% full by January 16th. If that enrollment percentage is not attained, the workshop will be cancelled and all students will be issued full refunds. As an added bonus and in order to avoid low enrollment cancellations, I’d like to introduce you to…

The Refer-A-Friend Program

  • This is something new I am offering! Here’s how it works.

  • Sign yourself up for your desired taxidermy class by placing a deposit online.

  • Tell your friends or followers about it (or any of my other taxidermy classes).

  • When someone whom you referred signs up for any class, they simply need to write your first and last name in the notes at checkout. If they forget to do that, they can email me within 24 hours. After 24 hours the referral is no longer valid.

  • For each person you refer, you will receive $10 off your balance for the class. That’s it!

Terms For Referrals:
The referral program is open to students who have placed a deposit for a workshop that has not occurred yet. Referrals do not operate retroactively and you cannot receive referral credit for a class that has already happened.
In the rare instance that the number of people you refer goes over the amount of your cash balance for your class, I will give you $10 in cash for each additional referral at the time of your class. For instance, if your balance is $100 but you refer 12 people, you will be off the hook for the $100 balance and I will give you $20 in cash on your class date.

To sign up and reserve your spot or sign up someone as a gift, please follow these instructions:

  • Add your desired class to your cart.

  • Fill out the form that pops up. You will need to provide a name, email address, and phone number as well as your choice of rat or rabbit.

  • Each student needs to have a separate form filled out. If you are giving a ticket to the class as a gift, please provide the student’s information rather that your own.

  • When you are finished adding the desired tickets to your cart, proceed to checkout and pay your fee of $90 per ticket. Your registration is not complete and your spot is not reserved until you have submitted payment and received an email receipt.

  • $60 in cash will be due on the day of the class. If you are giving this class as a gift and prefer to pay in full now, please email hello@mickeyalicekwapis.com BEFORE checking out on this page.

  • I can design gift certificates and have them printed at your local Walgreen’s. The cost is around $3 and you will pay when you pick up your print at your Walgreen’s store. If this is something you would like to do, please email hello@mickeyalicekwapis.com.

Terms and conditions:
Tuition is nonrefundable unless the class gets cancelled by the teacher. If you make a payment but find you can no longer attend the class, you may forfeit your payment or transfer it to another person if you desire. Please notify me of any transfers or ask any questions you may have by emailing hello@mickeyalicekwapis.com.

Due to the time-sensitive nature of the process, students arriving more than fifteen minutes late are asked to call ahead so we know when to expect you. My phone number will be sent to students at the same time as the classroom information.

I will accommodate late arrivals to the best of my ability. Please keep in mind that late students are not guaranteed to finish their projects during designated class time. In the event that this happens, those late students will receive instructions and materials to finish their projects at home.
